How to use it

• Pick a length from 4 to 64 characters – 16 or more is recommended.
• Tick the character types to include: uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.

What the strength rating means

The meter combines your chosen length and character variety. Longer passwords with all four character types rate Very Strong, because every extra character multiplies the time an attacker's computer needs to guess the whole password. Short passwords built from a single character type rate Weak.

Password tips that matter more than complexity

Use a different password for every account, prefer passphrases of 16+ characters for anything important, and store them in a password manager so you only need to remember one master password. Never reuse a password across banking, email, and shopping sites – a leak at one service should never unlock the others.
